What do disability support workers do?
Disability support workers provide compassionate assistance to people with disabilities to help them live more independently and become more involved in their community. Specifically can help with personal care, mobility, communication, and other activities of daily living.
Australian disability support workers must pass stringent training processes that assess workers at the highest level of qualifications. Disability support workers also need to be resilient, compassionate, and dedicated to their clients.
How do I get disability support in Australia?
The main avenue of disability support is through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). You can apply to become an NDIS participant by contacting the NDIS directly or through an NDIS registered provider. Once approved, participants work with a planner to develop a support plan that outlines what it will take for them to become more independent, and the services and supports that will be provided.
If a participant is not able to become a participant of the NDIS for whatever reason, there are still avenues available to explore. If you have any questions about NDIS eligibility, get in touch with our team.
